  • Simple Ways To Update Your Kitchen On A Budget
    Sep 25,2019 — By Connie

After a few years of living in the same place, walking into the kitchen can become a frustrating experience. We feel like we’re walking back in time, and kitchens tend to get left without redecoration for decades.

This is the year for change, and we have some fantastic advice below!

    Remove the Clutter

First and foremost, one of the biggest issues with kitchens in general is actually one of the easiest to fix. Why not free the countertops from all the unnecessary clutter and realize why you chose granite again? Why not pass on utensils that simply don’t get used? If you still use everything, we recommend wall-mounted storage facilities and utensil racks.

Even after this, you’ll find fantastic magnetic strips and other ways to keep utensils and appliances from cluttering the work surface.

    Upgrade Hardware

Next up, you’ll be amazed at how much new pulls, knobs, and hinges will do for your kitchen. Whether you change style or even go for the popular ‘push to open’ design, you’ll add life to a dying room.

    Paint

This is perhaps the most obvious way to update a kitchen, right? With a tin or two, you can transform it into a completely different room. To reflect light, go for light shades and this will give a clean finish with the white appliances. For those with wooden cabinets, we recommend using a light stain (or pickled effect) and you won’t even need to paint.

    Add Light

For those frustrated with their dark and dingy kitchen it’s time to let in the light. Why cook in the dark when you can add under-counter strips, LED lighting, track lighting, plug-in pendant lights, and more? In some cases, you may be able to add a naked kitchen window.

Top Tip: Soft lighting doesn’t offer too much in the kitchen so increase the wattage of your bulbs.

    Add Accent Colors

Sometimes, especially in white-based rooms, all you need is a pop of color. Whether you achieve this with material, paint, tiles, or appliances, it breaks up the room and attracts the eye to the fun parts of the kitchen.

Perhaps you can help a light room with a dark island or a colorful backsplash? Elsewhere, some choose to color one wall differently to the rest. To really nail this move, make sure this pop of color comes in a few different places. When introduced alone, having one pop of color can look a little odd.

    Clean and Modernize

Finally, it might sound easy, but you can actually bring a kitchen back to life by removing the built-up layer of grease, dirt, and smoke. Since the window tends to accumulate the most, start here and notice more sunlight coming through.

Otherwise, consider modernizing. For example, we love the idea of removing cabinet doors and painting the interior a similar shade to the wall; the cabinet suddenly blends into the room. You could also install a modern sliding door.

Often, it’s time rather than money that leads to the best kitchen upgrades and we’ve hopefully given you some ideas today!
