  • Free Your Home from Clutter with 8 Simple Tips
Dec 10,2019 — By Connie Uy

Do you ever feel as though the walls are closing in as you look around and see clutter in every direction? If so, it’s time to take back control and we have eight fantastic tips to get started!

    Organize All Items

Rather than having everything strewn about the house, we recommend putting similar items together. For example, a draw for light bulbs and other maintenance items and another for board games and toys. Wouldn’t it be great to know where something was at the first time of asking?

    Lose the Plastic Bottles

When it comes to personal care and cleaning products, we all have our favorites. Yet, we continue to hold onto those that don’t get as much use. Why?

Spend 30 minutes going through cabinets and shelves and gather all half-used shampoos, surface cleaners, and other items you no longer use. We aren’t saying they should go to waste, so either use them up before going back to the favorites or offer them to a friend.

    Always Carry Something

This small tip has helped millions in the past, and it’s to never make an empty trip. If you’re going from one room to the other, take something with you. Whether it’s the clean clothing that needs to go upstairs or the coffee mug that needs to reach the kitchen, always carry something.

    Adopt the Minimalist Mindset

Do you have lots of ‘I might need it in the future’ items? If so, get rid of them. We recommend the three-box system; one month, six months, and one year. When items aren’t used, they enter the boxes. After reaching the one-year box, the ‘just in case’ item just isn’t required.

    Make Your Bed

Did you know that many public speakers and authors on the topic of productivity suggest that a good day starts with making the bed? By doing this, we’ve already achieved something before leaving the room and it sets us up for more success as the day goes on. Not only does it make the room tidier, it gives you the mindset to continue doing small things to reduce clutter.

Trash Cans and Hampers in Each Room

Don’t only have garbage cans and hampers in certain rooms because you’re less likely to use them. Instead, have them in each room and keep tidying as you go.

    Lose the Bad Memories

Life’s too short to be surrounded by negative memories, so take action today. Even if something was a gift, we shouldn’t surround ourselves with items that get us down. Your home is your happy place and safe space, don’t let anything change this.

    Complete All Quick Tasks Immediately

If something needs doing in the home and it will take less than five minutes, do it right now. If it takes longer, add it to the list. Let’s get those short tasks done rather than filling a to-do list with unnecessary items.

With these eight tips, we can take the chore out of life and bring back some fun!
